Comedy Horrors for Halloween

I like a good horror movie, there is nothing like a slasher movie which not only has gore but also has edge of your seat atmosphere as. But sometimes the need to be scared just doesn't appeal to me even though I still want horror and that is when I turn to comedy horrors. With Halloween coming up here is a selection of comedy horrors and some horror movies which are so bad they're funny:

1 - Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)

Having bought an old cabin in the woods, hillbillies Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) head there for a weekend to start fixing it up inbetween some fishing and drinking. But also up in the woods are a group of college kids including Allison (Katrina Bowden) looking for a good time. When Allison gets in to trouble in the lake it is Tucker & Dale who come to her rescue except the other guys see and think that the two dumb-ass hillbillies are creepy kidnappers and set about rescuing her. But their misguided attempts only end up in a bloody mess and their own demise... full review

2 - Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun (Simon Pegg) leads a pretty dull life; he goes to work and drinks in his local, The Winchester, with his best friend Ed (Nick Frost). But Shaun's full life has lead to him falling out with him mum and step-dad as well as his girlfriend who has dumped him for not paying her enough attention. Determined to get his sad life back on track, Shaun decides to start acting like a grown up only to discover an unrelenting and unexpected army of zombies are causing chaos in England... full review

3 - Zombieland (2009)

Following the mutation of the mad cow disease a virus has wiped out most of the World's population leaving the few remaining humans to do battle with the virus infected zombies. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is one of those few remaining survivors and is making his way across America living by a set of rules he has devised to protect him from being caught by when he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) another survivor who likewise is heading across America but is more hands on when it comes to dealing qith zombies. As they share a ride they not only have to battle zombies in any way possible but also a couple of con artists by the names of Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) who end up joining them... full review

4 - Black Sheep (2006)

As a child living on his father's sheep farm in New Zealand it wasn't a great experience for young Henry Oldfield (Nathan Meister) as he watched his father lavish praise on his brother Angus's (Peter Feeney) sheeping skills. And things get worse when a bloody prank with Angus's pet sheep and their father's unfortunate death leaves Henry with a phobia of sheep. Many years later and Henry returns to the sheep farm to sell his share of the business to Angus but after arriving discovers that Angus has been involved in some genetic experimenting on sheep. At the same time couple of animal activists break into Angus's lab and steal a mutant sheep in a jar which is accidentally released and bites one of the activists. So starts a nightmare as mutant sheep with sharp teeth start terrorizing the humans... full review

A year after the murder of her mother, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) finds herself the focus of attention as a crazed killer hits the small town of Woodsboro. Having already brutally murdered two of her school friends, the masked killer appears to be targetting poor Sidney and her friends picking them off whilst the police do their best to protect her. At the same time aggressive TV journalist Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) arrives in Woodsboro determined to get the inside scoop on the serial murders... full review

6 - Evil Dead II (1987)

Ash (Bruce Campbell) takes his girlfriend for a romantic getaway to a cabin in the woods but after a row he plays a tape by a professor which recites passages from the book of the dead. The readings unleash an evil spirit which turns Ash's girlfriend into a Deadite which then goes after Ash. It is then that the professor's daughter and her friends show up and so commences a battle featuring beheadings, amputations, chainsaws and lot of hilariously gory stuff... full review

7 - Severance (2006)

Sent on a team building exercise to play paintball in the woods, the staff of arms supplier Palisade Defence suddenly realise that not only is the road blocked but they have no idea where they are. Stumbling across what they believe is the lodge they are booked into for the weekend they set about their team building, lead by Richard (Tim McInnerny). But it soon becomes apparent to them all that they are not only in the wrong place but there are crazed killers loose in the woods meaning that they have to fight for their survival... full review

Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) is a hard working student whose only black mark against himse name is that he is sleeping with the Dean's daughter Megan (Barbara Crampton). That is until Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) arrives at the facility to further his education and rents Dan's spare room as Herbert has unique ideas on bringing the dead back to life. When his cat goes missing Dan finds himself drawn into Herbert's world where he discovers he has re-animated his cat and now wants Dan's help to bring a human back to life with his potion... full review

9 - Gremlins (1984)

In a rush to get home inventor Randall Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) spots a little Chinese curiosity shop and goes in to get his son Billy (Zach Galligan) a Christmas present. It is where he finds the cutest little fur ball ever known as a Mogwai and manages to buy it from the shop's assistant on the hush hush. But the Mogwai comes with 3 rules: 1) Keep it away from bright lights, 2) Never get it wet, and 3) Never, never ever feed it after midnight. Back home and Billy loves his new pet which he christens Gizmo, dressing it in a Santa hat, but unfortunately some water accidentally spills on the fur ball causing it to give birth to several other fur balls. But these other Mogwai are not like Gizmo, they are mischievous and lead by one called Stripe manage to break the other rules, turning them into monsters and forcing Billy, his girlfriend Kate (Phoebe Cates) and Gizmo to try and save the town before it is over run with Gremlins... full review

10 - Slither (2006)

A meteorite from outer space comes crashing down undetected in the woodlands near a small town where Grant Grant (Michael Rooker) and Starla Grant (Elizabeth Banks), an unlikely couple, live. One night whilst walking through the woods Grant Grant stumbles across the meteorite and becomes infected by a parasite it releases which quickly takes over his body and mind turning him into a monster. With Grant now looking to infect others, his wife Starla and local lawman Bill (Nathan Fillion) along with a few others must find away to not only survive but stop Grant before he infects the whole town... full review

11 - Sharknado (2013)

After a series of weather warnings a mighty hurricane hits Los Angeles but this is one with extra bite as it sucks up sharks from the sea and dumps them down into the flooding streets of the city. Surfer Fin (Ian Ziering) along with his friends set out to save his estranged wife April (Tara Reid) and this daughter Claudia (Aubrey Peeples) who live on the other side of town doing battle as they make it across the town... full review

12 - Parents (1989)

In many ways Michael Laemle (Bryan Madorsky) is a typical young boy growing up in the 1950s, he may be a little quiet and withdrawn but like most children he has an active imagination especially when it comes to his parents. Every night when they cook up huge chunks of meat on the bar b cue Michael wonders where the meat is coming from especially as his parents keep on giving each other sly looks. It leads Michael to imagine his parents are up to something sinister and he is having to eat the results of what ever they have been upto... full review

Having been dumped for the umpteenth time by his girlfriend Judy (Lucy Gaskell), Jimmy (Mathew Horne) is in need of a break and so is his best mate Fletch (James Corden) who as a child's performer is sacked for attacking a kid. After a few lagers and with no money they decide to go hiking and a dart thrown at a map leads them to Cragwich in Norfolk where they stumble upon a bevy of beauties all there to research the legend of Vampire Queen Carmilla (Silvia Colloca), who put a curse on Cragwich that when a girl turns 18 she also turns into a Lesbian vampire... full review

14 - The Lair of the White Worm (1988)

Archaeologist Angus Flint (Peter Capaldi) discovers a curious skull which is not man or animal as he excavates a plot where a convent once stood. Not long after Lady Sylvia Marsh (Amanda Donohoe) returns to a nearby mansion which neighbours the mansion owned by Lord James D'Ampton (Hugh Grant) whose history is connected to the legend of the D'Ampton worm that was said to have been slain by one of his ancestors. But strange things start to happen when people go missing, the skull is taken and a watch belonging to one of the missing people shows up in a cavern. As Angus and James start to snoop they learn that the worm was worshipped by a cult and believe that maybe the worm not only survived but has returned... full review
