Brennan Elliott and Brooke Shields in Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted (2016)

The Wedding Flowers Mystery

As a florist Abby Knight (Brooke Shields - Gone But Not Forgotten) should be happy to be doing the flowers for a wedding, the trouble is that it is her cousin's wedding and Abby knows that she has a habit of backing out of things at the last minute. To make matters worse Abby also has to be a bridesmaid and not only are all the other bridesmaids a lot younger than her they are shorter as well which makes her stick out like a sore thumb. But things take a curious turn when a wedding crasher ends up being found murdered and Abby, with the help of Marco (Brennan Elliott - Christmas Encore), can't help but investigate.

Quick question: how many Hallmark movies have you already watched involving a business owner turning amateur detective to solve a murder mystery? There are a few to choose from librarians to cafe owners. In truth maybe there are a few too many as whilst each has their individual appeal they start getting a little samey. Sadly for me I have never enjoyed the "Flower Shop Mystery" movies as much as I have others, which is a surprise as I am a guy of an age who crushed on Brooke Shields madly when I was a teenager.

So what does that mean when it comes to "Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted"? Well I could say that we have a murder, a lack of one real suspect and Abby, with the help of Marco, play amateur detective to work through a list of people they believe have motives till they find out who did it. But truth be told, whilst we have the mystery and we have the characters, what is crucial to your enjoyment when watching "Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted" is how much you enjoy Brooke Shields as Abby and Brennan Elliott as Marco and of course their friendly flirtations. And yes they are entertaining in a light hearted manner but the spark isn't there to make their friendly flirtations entertaining enough to support the cliche nature of the rest of the movie.

What this all boils down to is that "Flower Shop Mystery: Dearly Depotted" is just another okay Hallmark murder & mystery/ amateur detective movie with a plot which could have been used in any of the other similar TV movies.
