OTT at Christmas

Regina (Erica Ash) and Franklin (Redaric Williams) were love's young dream and couldn't do enough for each other with their wedding actually taking place on Christmas Day at the Chesterton Hotel. But that was six years ago and after they relocated to the suburbs, with Franklin commuting to the city every day for his job in the music industry, issues of trust start to raise their ugly head as Regina suspects that Franklin is cheating on her with his ex. It leads to a blazing row and Regina wanting a divorce with it scheduled to be finalised on Christmas Day. It leads to Regina moving in with her best friend, Trish (Eva Marcille), who lives in a fancy suite at The Chesterton Hotel. And it is at the hotel she finds herself being romanced by, multi-millionaire, Ulysses Danbert (Allen Maldonado). But with the divorce deadline looming will what Regina and Franklin have come back to them or will it be gone for ever.

Some people love the cutesy fun of a Hallmark Christmas movie whilst others can't stand it. At the same time some people love movies where characters have over the top attitudes and over react all the time whilst others don't. Now if you are a fan of over the top attitudes and over reacting there is a chance you will enjoy "Miss Me This Christmas" because most of the entertainment, or at least what is meant to be humour and romance, comes from the attitudes and reactions of the characters. But if you don't enjoy that sort of entertainment there is a chance "Miss Me This Christmas"will be a struggle to get into right from the word go especially as after an opening back story montage the first few scenes are all attitude and shouting.

But if you can look past this what you get in "Miss Me This Christmas" is a simple drama about a couple with marriage issues who separate but as they wait for the divorce to be finalised not only do some soul searching but get to see what life would be like without each other. It is pleasant but it isn't great and at times this feels like a movie which has an ulterior motive, which is to introduce us to the Chesterton Hotel and the people who work there in order to set up a series of movies. And to be honest this hotel has plenty of scope to be the location for a whole series of movies.

What this all boils down to is that for me "Miss Me This Christmas" didn't do it for me and it simply comes down to the character's over reacting and over the top attitudes not being what entertains me. But if you look beyond the over acting there is an okay story there.
