Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol (1962)

Mr. Magoo Gives a Dickens

Mr. Magoo is heading back to Broadway to appear in a musical version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". But first in typical Mr. Magoo fashion he is oblivious to the fact he is driving down a one way street the wrong way and after crashing walks across a busy road before making it to the theatre.

That synopsis is in truth pretty irrelevant as the whole framing of Mr. Magoo appearing in a version of "A Christmas Carol" is not important, in fact I believe it was even cut from some versions shown in America so that they could keep the running to an hour with advert breaks chucked in. As such what you really get is simply an animated version of "A Christmas Carol" with Mr. Magoo as Ebenezer Scrooge with very little in the movie built around Mr. Magoo being short sighted. Yet it works because Jim Backus who voices Mr. Magoo as there is something beautifully cantankerous about his tone of voice. And truth is that not only will those who grew up watching Mr. Magoo enjoy watching this young children will also find it entertaining and easy to follow.

What this all boils down to is that "Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol" is simply an animated, musical version of "A Christmas Carol" and as such young children will find it fun as well as those who grew up watching Mr. Magoo.
