Toss it Back

Having ended up bankrupt, scuba diver Bill Harper (Ken Scott) is forced to work as an apartment manager in return for rent fee living for him and his wife Dottie (Merry Anders). But not only does Bill want to get back the life he once had but his handyman brother Buddy (Garth Benton) has a thing for Dottie which is becoming uncontrollable. But Bill has a plan, to scuba over to Catalina Island, walk up the street in full Scuba gear, rob the bank, scuba back but on the way attach the loot to the underside of s ferry. The trouble is that not only is Buddy's lusting after Dottie getting out of control but the person who gave Bill the idea wants a slice of the action.

It is not very often that I sit down to watch a movie and find myself bored with the first few minutes but that happened when I watched "Raiders from Beneath the Sea". The thing is that it shouldn't have bored me because here is a heist movie which follows the formula of giving us the idea, the planning, the actual heist as well as the aftermath but it is so lacking in everything that right from the word go it is dull with the only thing close to being attention grabbing is Merry Anders in a bikini.

So how can things go wrong? Well take the heist plan with Bill and others walking up the street in scuba gear to rob a bank, yes it sounds terrible which is a shame as then you have an idea about strong magnets and attaching the loot to the underside of a ferry which is a little more entertaining. But then we have dialogue which is so dull that combined with a lack of atmosphere could put you to sleep which in truth it nearly did. And unfortunately as "Raiders from Beneath the Sea" plays out it continually fails to grab your attention other than when ever Merry Anders is in swimwear or when ever there is over acting which actually is not that often but really sticks out when an actor resorts to some.

What this all boils down to is that "Raiders from Beneath the Sea" is really not good with pretty much everything about it being wrong from dialogue to action. Occasionally it has an idea which is not bad but it is only occasionally with the best thing about it being Merry Anders.
