Residence Should be Terminated

After the events on Arcadia, Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up in what first appears to be her home with her husband (Oded Fehr) and her daughter Becky (Aryana Engineer). But something isn't right and Alice realises that it is all a facade and she is in fact in a facility owned by the Umbrella Corporation. When the facilities computer system unexpectedly shuts down it seems the Red Queen is trying to kill them whilst Wesker (Shawn Roberts) is sending in a team in to save her.

I have said all along that watching these "Resident Evil" movies have felt like being stuck in a room watching your mate hog the games controller as they play the game. Now in fairness some of the "Resident Evil" movies have been more entertaining than others but after 4 movies it was inevitable that the series would start to feel little more than a way to profit from its loyal fan base. And that is the problem with "Resident Evil: Retribution" because whilst there is a storyline which has evolved with the Red Queen in control of the Umbrella Corporation what gets delivered feels more than ever like watching your mate play a couple of levels from a game.

What this means is that "Resident Evil: Retribution" ends up all about the visual, from the starkness of the underground facility to the street scenes where bullets fly in slow motions, people fly through the air in slow motion, big axes fly in slow motion and did I mention the slow motion. Okay so slow motion makes Milla Jovovich a hot mum with guns as she takes down one bad guy after another but beyond Jovovich being hot, the action frequent, the effects bigger and even more in your face all you have left is some familiar faces in supporting roles such as Michelle Rodriguez and Kevin Durand which yes it is always nice to have known stars in support but it is again all about the visual of going look it is so and so.

What this all boils down to is that if all you want is some sexy looking action bathed in special effects then "Resident Evil: Retribution" should be entertaining. But if you find watching someone else play a video game a boring experience then the chances are no matter how sexy Milla Jovovich looks this will most likely be a tedious experience.
