Amazons of the West
Melvin Potter (Charles Veltmann Jr.) is in need of money to buy a saloon and so with his wife Ruby (Jodean Lawrence), prospector Pan (Stanton Pritchard) and Wade (Henry Darrow) a gunslinger head out to where Pan says there is an untapped gold streak. But what they are unprepared for as they head out into the wilderness is the tribe of Indians who fiercely protect their land as these are beautiful topless women who after all the men in their tribe were killed off took up their work as well, all under the leadership of Yellow Gold (Nona Carver) a white woman who was adopted by Indians when she was a child and saved due to the golden colour of her hair.
Anyone who frequents The Movie Scene knows I like old westerns especially those which have a run time of 60 minutes but I have to say that I have never come across a western like "Revenge of the Virgins" before. Now this late 1950's western almost like a typical low budget western where we have a varied group of people looking to get rich quick by heading in to Indian Territory to find gold and of course as is typical with one of these low budget westerns there is treachery when it comes to the gun slingers who plan to shoot others in the back. This opening isn't terrible but it is below par if "Revenge of the Virgins" was just another western.
But of course "Revenge of the Virgins" isn't just another western it feature "nude" Indian women who fiercely protect their land from the white invaders. Maybe this was titillation back in 1959 but now it is as tacky as it sounds. I honestly can't come up with a single word of praise when it comes to this side of the movie and I generally wonder how much money this movie would have made back in the day.
What this all boils down to is that "Revenge of the Virgins" is as poor as it sounds and in all honesty I wonder if the movie was just away of getting some attractive women to do a topless tribal dance as that seems to be the longest unedited scene in the entire movie.
