S Club Seeing Double (2003)

Double Trouble

It's all work and no play for the guys and girl in S Club (Tina, Jon, Bradley, Jo, Hannah and Rachel) as their hectic schedule sees them going from one place to another, harassed by their fans and having to get up ridiculously early. It is little surprise that every now and then they have a moan to their manager and why when one morning they wake up late and their manager is not there they decide to play hooky for the day. Or so they think as they get a shock when they see on TV S CLUB is playing live some how. With no money they set about tracking down their manager only to discover a mad scientist has replaced him and them with clones.

Let me hit you with the single positive I can come up with having watched "S Club Seeing Double", that is that beneath a lot of issues this movie actually makes a comment on the plastic nature of the pop industry. With the story which shows S Club being replaced by clones it is a sort of clever dig at how there is always another group in the wings to replace a popular group even though the new band looks and sounds alike.

Anyway, beyond that one positive what is left is some typical fantasy stuff with the band on a series of comical mishap filled adventures which lead to plenty of their songs tossed into the mix such as singing and dancing in what looks more like a dungeon than a prison. I suppose that for very young fans of S Club the over the top comical nature of the movie with slapstick falls combined with the music will be an enjoyable distraction, well maybe a distraction but for pretty much anyone else it offers very little other than maybe a chance to think back to how things were when watched now.

What this all boils down to is that "S Club Seeing Double" is nothing, just an anonymous movie made to showcase a band and their music. Ironically 10 days after the movie's release the band announced they were splitting up which kind of made it an even more pointless movie.
