Lesley-Ann Brandt and Ving Rhames in Zombie Apocalypse (2011)

Apocalypse Later

A virus has wiped out much of the population of America, turning them into zombies in the process and those who are unaffected having to battle for survival as they try to make it to Catalina Island where the virus has not reached yet. Leading this plucky band of misfit survivors is the muscular Henry (Ving Rhames) who not only leads the battle against the zombies but attempts to keep moral up amongst his small group. But with the zombies exhibiting signs of growing intelligence the battle to survive gets ever harder as their numbers get smaller.

Well Ving Rhames is quite entertaining and there are some scenes of character interplay which is sort of interesting but there is little else which grabs your attention when it comes to "Zombie Apocalypse", this made for TV zombie flick. And the reason why is that because it serves up the same scenario we see in so many zombie movies, that of the band of survivors roaming the land, killing zombies and insane animals. Okay so the attractive woman who kills with a samurai sword is an entertaining extra but everything else about the movie is familiar and no better than other similar movies. In fact with "Zombie Apocalypse" being a made for TV movie it has those fake looking special effects when it comes to blood spurting, heads exploding or being chopped off.

What this all boils down to is that if you have never watched a zombie movie before then "Zombie Apocalypse" might work as an entertaining introduction to the popular genre. But if you are a veteran zombie movie fan this offers up little in the way of genre development or in truth horror to keep you entertained.
