Steven Seagal in Against the Dark (2009)

Seagal's Slasher Movie

Something has gone wrong and a virus has swept through America turning anyone infected into a mutant blood sucking zombie and that means most people. As such the uninfected are forced to fight and run for their lives often hiding in secure buildings. It is how a group of humans end up in a hospital but having to fight for their lives. Fortunately some humans are more proactive and The Hunters lead by Tao (Steven Seagal) are a bunch of sword wielding mercenaries taking the fight to the zombies. Unfortunately the government are being even more proactive and plan to bomb the area giving are humans and Hunters a deadline to escape by.

Write down a list of zombie movies and then watch "Against the Dark" as you can play a game of where you have seen the cliches before. Yes "Against the Dark" is full of cliches from humans trying to protect themselves in an old hospital to the government planning on blowing up an entire town to wipe out these zombies. Plus we have the Hunters, are group of human vigilantes who walk around in leather coats, say corny things and wield knives. But sadly cliche is the only thing you get in "Against the Dark".

But the worst thing about "Against the Dark" is Steve Seagal as this is one of those movies where he doesn't smile, says sentences of less than 5 words and relies on the director to piece together the action in the editing room to make it look more impressive than it is. It is weak even by Seagal's standards who for the first third of the movie he is barely in it. Instead we get these group of actors playing the human survivors who frankly are a non-descript bunch.

What this all boils down to is that "Against the Dark" is weak even if you compare it to some of Steven Seagal's worse direct to DVD movies. But it is not just Seagal's fault and the fact we have nothing more that cliches doesn't help matters.
