Monstro! (2010)

Not Monstro Enough

Three women who don't give a damn about anyone first kill two guys and then crash in a hut by a watering hole, making a nuisance of themselves for the old man next door and his grand daughter who lives with him. But it seems that there is something living in the water causing these girls to take on a sea creature as well.

From my perspective "Monstro!" is writer and director Stuart Simpson trying to either recreate or pay homage to the vixen movies of Russ Meyer. Now maybe for those who dig the old vixen movies will enjoy "Monstro!" with its violence, cheap acting and much more even if it doesn't quite capture what Meyer achieved. But I never did really get the attraction of those Vixen movies and sadly with this feeling a weak homage to Meyer it was hard work from start to finish.

The thing is there isn't much else to say as part of the movie is about the don't give a damn bad girl antics interweaved with some sped up footage and then we have an almost comedy-horror side when it comes to the sea monster. That is it and so if the whole styling and homage bits don't entertain there is nothing else to entertain.

What this all boils down to is that "Monstro!" was not for me and whilst some might appreciate its Russ Meyer like qualities I personally found it a slog from start to finish.
