[REC] 3: Genesis (2012)

A Wedding Horror

It's Clara's (Leticia Dolera) wedding day, the happiest day of her life as everyone she cares about has turned out for her wedding. But the infection has spread out from the apartment and suddenly this day to remember turns in to a nightmare she will never forget.

I didn't care much for "[REC] 2" and as I review "[REC] 3: Genesis" I still haven't watched "[REC]" but sadly whilst this third movie moves things in to the daylight and out of the darkness of the apartment it still didn't do a lot for me. Now maybe that is because I've never watched the original movie but the whole style of the video camera footage has rarely worked for me and it doesn't here especially as rather than feeling fly on the wall the camera becomes too intrusive. Now it does change around 30 minutes in but even then whilst the image quality improves there is still a messy feel to it.

But it isn't just the chaos of amateur style video footage which doesn't work the actual horror which starts with Uncle Pepe having been bitten by something and descends in to chaos just isn't scary. There is no denying that the rabid look the infected have is good but it is no different to what you will see in a ton of other movies. As such "[REC] 3: Genesis" returns to being about the camera footage which just isn't that great.

What this all boils down to is that maybe for some "[REC] 3: Genesis" and the first two movie worked but for me the horror of the situation and the danger never really presented itself in a way which made up for the frequent novelty camera footage.
