Danielle Panabaker and Shawn Roberts in Recipe for Love (2014)

Cooking from the Heart

From a very early age Lauren Hennessey (Danielle Panabaker - Nearlyweds) loved to cook and as the years have passed that passion has bloomed as she has become a perfectionist in the kitchen with aspirations of going to a top culinary school in Paris. Whilst working in the test kitchen for a food and entertainment magazine she is offered the opportunity to ghost write the cookbook for TV Chef, and renowned alpha male, Dexter Durant (Shawn Roberts - Ms. Matched). Inevitably sparks fly between the bullish Dexter and the highly organized Lauren as their different temperaments clash. But as they work together and Dexter's bullish facade starts to melt away the sparks become romantic and they become an incredible team in the kitchen.

In the left hand corner we have Danielle Panabaker as Lauren, a driven young woman who wants to be the best in the kitchen and as such goes to extraordinary lengths to prepare, you might say a little too obsessive and precise in her search for perfection and a little too controlled when it comes to the detail. In the opposite corner there is Shawn Roberts as Dexter, the full of himself TV chef whose cooking ability is as much about the alpha male image he portrays and who is feeling the pressure as his TV career rests on a cookbook he has no time to write. Both are good at what they do but both are flawed and together they make the perfect team, rubbing off each others rough edges and growing as people. That is simply what "Recipe for Love" is about two people who grow to love each other, the perfect soul mates in and out of the kitchen.

That is pretty much it and as Hallmark romantic comedies go "Recipe for Love" is pretty straight forwards with little in the way of twists, turns, surprises, and originality. The thing is that whilst it means this is even more predictable than usual it still works because both Danielle Panabaker and Shawn Roberts bring charm and of course looks to their roles, which of course makes them easy to watch.

What this all boils down to is that "Recipe for Love" is just a plain and simple romance in the kitchen romantic comedy from the Hallmark channel. Frankly it isn't anything special but still a pleasant distraction for those wanting uncomplicated romantic entertainment.
