Billy Warlock in Society (1989)

Nothing Stranger then Folk

Bill Whitney (Bill Warlock ) has it all; he is 18 and comes from a wealthy family, he is dating a cheerleader and he is hugely popular at the high school. The thing is that he just doesn't feel like he belongs as he looks nothing like his mum, dad or sister and they don't treat him with anything close to love. It is why Bill has regular sessions with a therapist to try and work his issues with not feeling like he belongs. But between some strange visions and a tape sounding like some sort of orgy which one of his sister's ex boyfriends gives him Billy is convinced that things are most certainly not normal with the society he lives.

I have a vague recollection of watching "Society" some time after it came out when a friend rented it from Blockbusters, those were the days in more senses than one, but even now I have a memory surrounding how this movie plays out. In truth when things start kicking off in "Society" what you get is pretty unforgettable yet truth be told I had forgotten pretty much everything else about the movie including the amount of flesh on show when it comes to to the various women in lingerie, bikinis and in some cases the outfits they wear. Now having watched "Society" again I can say with a fair amount of certainty that I will end up forgetting most of the movie again with the exception of how things end up.

This though leaves me with a bit of a dilemma as to reveal how "Society" plays out would be to spoil it, even now yet if I don't say there isn't much that I can say. Well I could tell you that for a lot of time what you seem to get is a lot of flesh and some freakiness such as when Bill walks in on his sister taking a shower and spots what seems to breasts on her back. But I can't say more other than to say that Bill thinks he doesn't fit in and whilst others who don't fit in get killed Bill eventually learns the shocking truth.

What this all boils down to is that "Society" whilst certainly creative and has a mix of the freaky, weird and shocking going on it isn't actually that good. In many ways it is typical of the late 80s era and part of its appeal back then was the flesh on show which there is plenty of.
