Banking on Friendship
Cassie (Abbie Cobb - Secrets in the Attic) reluctantly works at the bank where her mother, Joyce (Maeve Quinlan - The Sinister Surrogate), is the assistant manager and that leads to some conflict as Cassie finds it hard to have a life of her own. But it leads to them both being in danger when a trio of bank robbers enter the bank and take Cassie hostage whilst making off with thousands. And it gets even murkier for Cassie when she realises one of the robbers is Abbie (Cassi Thomson - Rock the House), her best friend, and another is Grace (Davida Williams). Whilst Cassie deals with the situation and finds out why her friends robbed the bank her mum will do everything she can to save her daughter especially as police agent Mendoza (Rosa Blasi) suspects Cassie is part of the gang.
At first glace "Teenage Bank Heist" sounds like a typical made for TV drama where we have a mum desperate to do everything in her power to save her daughter who has been kidnapped. On top of that there is the equally typical aspect of the cops believing the daughter is actually part of the gang and that makes things a little difficult for the mum. If I was to stop there "Teenage Bank Heist" wouldn't sound much but we have an extra angle as we have a motive as to why Cassie's friends would rob a bank and it involves a father having been taken hostage South of the border. All of which gives "Teenage Bank Heist" some interesting angles but sadly it is only ever a lightweight made for TV drama which doesn't try to be anything more than easy to watch drama with some action and a bond of friendship at its heart.
What that also means is that "Teenage Bank Heist" is one of those made for TV movies which rely heavily on the cast's appeal and with Maeve Quinlan, Abbie Cobb as well as Cassi Thomson in the cast this is definitely a movie with actor appeal, the sort of actors you feel warmth towards. But their characters, well as I said this is a light weight TV drama and as such these characters are like junk food, okay whilst you are watching but not overly memorable.
What this all boils down to is that whilst "Teenage Bank Heist" has some nice elements, including good girl doing a bad thing to save their father, it is just some light weight TV drama with some action. But nothing about it really stands out from the crowd and relies heavily on the appeal of the cast to make it watch able.
