An Oirish Christmas

Darcy (Caitlin Thompson) has been best friends with Brandon (James Henri-Thomas) ever since they were children, often running to his when her parents would start arguing. Now many years later they are still best friends with Brandon putting up with Darcy's obsession for having the perfect Christmas, some thing she never had as a child which has led to her being exhaustingly demanding when it comes to Christmas. But a series of strange events leads to Darcy being transported in to her idea of what a perfect Christmas village is, where Christmas is every day, her parents are happily married and she is dating Tom (Robbie Silverman), a work colleague in her real life. The question Darcy faces is whether or not what she thinks is perfect is really as great as she hoped?

When cliches collide you end up with "The Perfect Christmas Village", also known as "Christmas Perfection", which trust me it isn't. You see what you get in "The Perfect Christmas Village" is a touch of "Groundhog Day" as Darcy gets to have Christmas everyday, she also gets everything that she thinks would make her perfect Christmas which she comes to realise is not perfect when it is every day. And then of course there is the falling for the handsome guy when maybe the loyal best friend is the real Mr. Right and has been there all along. Sorry is there were spoilers in that sentence but "The Perfect Christmas Village" is simply these cliches slammed together with some okay-ish comedy tossed in between.

Now on the subject of the comedy in "The Perfect Christmas Village", well here is a movie where the perfect village is in Ireland and so we have actors putting on the sort of Irish accent which just sounds wrong, they sound too Oirish if you know what I mean. The knock on effect of this is that with the exception of James Henri-Thomas most of the actors end up over playing their characters and becoming annoying. I singled out Henri-Thomas because the character of Brandon is the sensible one in this movie, the regular guy and Henri-Thomas does a nice job of playing him as such.

What this all boils down to is that "The Perfect Christmas Village" didn't do it for me thanks to the comedy being corny and the storyline being cliche. But I suppose in some cheesy sort of way there is some entertainment to this, if that is your sort of thing.
