Melia Kreiling in X Moor (2014)

The Fox and the Cat

Georgia (Melia Kreiling) and her boyfriend Matt (Nick Blood) have been to the UK before, last time it was to try and get footage of the Loch Ness monster, this time they are down in Exmoor hoping to get footage of the beast, the black panther like cat which is reported to roam the area. To help them Georgia has got in touch with Fox (Mark Bonnar) who is an experienced hunter and tracker who has done some groundwork when it comes to the area. But as they head out in to the forest where that big cat supposedly hides it soon becomes apparent to Georgia and Matt that Fox's motives are not what they seem.

I don't live down at Exmoor but have heard of the big cat which is meant to roam that area, in fact where I live there has been sightings of a black cat as well and to be honest it is both fascinating and a little frightening to think that there could be killer cats roaming around in the dark. Beyond the fact that I will pretty much watch any sort of movie the fact that "X Moor" appeared to be a horror about these big cats was a draw and as such I have to say that I ended up being disappointed. And the reason is that "X Moor" ends up not being about these mysterious cats but about something else, some thing which ends up a weak and routine idea which when it comes to the ending seems to go for quick closure.

What this means is that after a slowish build up we get two things in "X Moor" with the first being the realisation that Fox has guided them in to a situation which isn't what Georgia and Matt were expecting as they end up in an area of the forest where bodies have been dumped. The second thing is that unsurprisingly what we end up watching is Georgia's battle to survive, get revenge and escape from the nightmare she is having in the woods all of which is pretty routine and uninteresting. It tries to be a little clever with the use of cameras that Matt set up in the woods as well as what Georgia discovers in a Land Rover but it isn't enough to make up for the disappointment of where the storyline goes.

What this all boils down to is that "X Moor" was a nice idea wasted by taking it down a different route which then became a routine survival in the woods movie with a screaming young woman as the focus.
